1863 Signed and Numbered Limited Edition Monument Replicas
Company H of the 1st Pennsylvania Cavalry was organized at Camp Wilkins, Pittsburgh, in August of 1861. The main part of the 1st Pennsylvania Cavalry was commanded at the Battle of Gettysburg by Colonel John P. Taylor. Although normally assigned to the Second Division of the Cavalry Corps, at Gettysburg most of the regiment was attached to Army Headquarters. Company H had been detached from the regiment since February of 1863 and was on special assignment as a Sixth Army Corps headquarters escort. Company H was commanded by Captain William S. Craft and arrived on the field with the Sixth Corps Headquarters on July 2, 1863. One man was killed during the battle.
The monument was dedicated in 1996 and is located on the east side of Sedgwick Avenue about 0.25 mile north of Wheatfield Road.
